TM year 2025-2026, the DisCon just past and how busy I was - back to simplicity?

TM year 2025-26 was supposed to be a light year for me. Having just fulfilled my role as Division N Director,I was feeling a bit of FOMO as I finally ended my term. No more Division Council and Distric Council to worry about. I also ended my term as HOLA president, so I was in for a very simple term of nat having any role in the District and Division. Let others take care of the leadership, roles for a change.

Okay, so I was asked to stay on as Sgt at Arms at HOLA - no big deal I also made sure I had less clubs to be a member of... from three, to just one. That was until I got a call from Remy (newly minted District Director, at that time and got asked about joining her Extended Leadership Team as Ethics COmmittee Chair (later reffered to as District Disciplinarian). So at least I got a few freebies from that role - namely a free DisCon and hotel room accomodation. But as I was about to learn, a few other roles crept up on me. Thus making me busy - specially during the DisCon.

I feel that I was too exposed in this DisCon. I had too many activities, making me busy... almost as if I was part of the DisCon team. A day did not pass wherin I did not have sometihng official to do. And on one side it feel great to be wanted and recognized, or even spotlighted - on the other hand, I felt that I never got enough time to just socialize with my Toastmaster colleagues, and friends. I flet tht I was moving from one place to another - thinking of my next assignment, or perparing for it, so I did not exactly get to sit down, laugh and mingle with colleagues - and I didn;t get drunk (damn...)

Honestly, I had to skip some events tha tI know I had no participation in, and rest in my room. I constantly had throat longenges to battle a sore throat, and even took some meds to prevent fever.I was that tired.

Thus I hope that come next Discon - be it in Davao or Cebu, I will angage in less oficial activities and just get to enjoy the conference as a participant. Right now, it lools promising. I have not been approached for any District position - I guess I can rest and be a simple member this coming Toastmaster year. Oh, I;ll help here and there - like for example, I'll be immersed in the Divison R Mentoring program, But aside from that, I;ll simpy be a HOLA member - maybe a CARE mentor still - or Papa Bear (a.k.a. chief mentor), and I ought to make this the cornertone of my HOLA activity... maybe turn it into a possible DTM project.

But that's as far as I know. A simpler Tastmaster life. Maybe join contests... who knows? Definitely finsihg a Pathway to two.Focus on finally documenting things for my DTM (and second DTM)?

Honestly, I didn't mean for this to go three parts (editor's note: it went to four) - it's just that there were a lot to process. Guess it helped that it was most recent, and had a lot of pictures. Moving on... Given our early successes, you'd think that this Toastmasters year would be one great one. In a sense, it was... after all, we were also celebrating the Centenial celebration of Toastmasters, so there was a vibe of making sure we would commemorate the Centenial. But before that happened, we needed to converge in Cebu to be part of the District's turnover ceremonies. Since Jot Chiongbian was based in Cebu, the turnover naturally happened to be organized there. Advantage here was that plane fare and hotel accomodations were covered by the District - me being part of the District Committee (as all Division Directors are). Division N Director (part 1) Out from the Left Field

If you know me, or if you've read previous articles about this, or if you even listened to my talks in the past about becoming the Division N Director, you'd know that this was unplanned for me. I simply had my sights in being the next Hall of Learners Advanced Toastmasters President - after all, I did psend almost the entire Toastmasters year being the club's Vice Presidnet for Education - helping led it to becoming President's Distinguished on it's first year. Aside from that, I was focused on being active in both Divisions H and B, though more on H. Still, when B needed help, I pitched it. Thus it was as I was driving to BGC that Tisha Timbang called me. Back in Toastmasters

My official reason for returning in Toastmasters was this... in the past, when Toastmaster friends would ask me if and when I would return, I would be non-commital. I had several reasons, but the main one I stuck to was, I'd focus on family first -and help get my kids through college. By this time, during the pandemic, both Bryce and Bernice did not just graduate - they had found jobs too! The pandemic just forced them, like everyone else, to work from home. Set things up that they could work and communicate remotely. Suddenly, Zoom was the paltform to learn and use by everyone who wanted to keep in touch. No one could go out of their homes, as it was considered a health risk. COVID 19 was no laughing matter - some people who got it, never recovered. But what was perplexing was that others who seemingly got it did not even show signs of getting sick. Unfortunately, this still made them carriers.
